The Summit Land Conservancy works tirelessly to protect these lands and our communities. We hustle, we fundraise, we problem-solve, we negotiate, and we collaborate on agreements—everything it takes to preserve what we love about this place. This community, our donors, our landowners, and our visitors all depend on us to do it. And we relish the task.

The Great Salt Lake is facing unprecedented danger. Without a dramatic increase in water flow to the lake in 2023 and 2024, its disappearance could cause irreparable damage to Utah’s public health, environment, and economy. Summit Land Conservancy’s Utah Headwaters Initiative focuses on enhancing the agricultural and environmental resources within the headwaters of the Weber, Provo, and Bear River Watersheds, which are the three main tributaries of the Great Salt Lake.
The Conservancy is dedicating the next five years of our work toward saving the watersheds and natural landscapes that filter and feed water into the Great Salt Lake. Our goal is the triple the acres we protect across four counties of the Wasatch Back. Please join us in saving mountains and meadows… for the future.
Eat smarter, save land.
Food waste is a major contributor to climate change. When food is thrown into landfills, it creates methane, a greenhouse gas that is much more potent than carbon dioxide. Thanks to a community-led movement, the Park City Community Foundation has launched the Zero Food Waste Initiative which aims to divert and eliminate all food waste from our local landfill by 2030. If you live in the 84060 and 84098 zip codes, you can now register for curbside food waste collection! It gets even better... When you use our specific codes you will get the first month free, and all registration fees waived! For every ten people that sign up using our unique codes: SAVELAND5 and SAVELAND16, Park City Community Foundation will cut us an unrestricted grant for $250! So you really can eat smarter AND save land.

Hoppy Hour, our favorite "friend-raising" event, is coming up on (thirsty) Thursday, October 10th and we're ready to celebrate 10 years of hunting for hops with YOU! If drinking beer and saving land sounds like your idea of a good time, then this is the party you’ve been waiting for. Join us as we raise our pints of the only beer brewed from hops that have grown on your favorite protected lands of the Wasatch Back. Believe us when we say, you can taste the open space! Nearly every season of the year, we offer programs with a little good-timin’ for a good cause. Events include our nighttime Moon Shine Adventures, Hops Hunters Hikes, and even hikes where we take a “bath” in the sounds and smells of nature! We aim to get people outside enjoying the open spaces we work so hard to protect. Because what we do is a gift that keeps on giving—to the entire community.

Open space is the heart of our community. Since 2002, the Summit Land Conservancy has been preserving the regional landscapes you cherish in Park City and Summit County for future generations. We are a strictly local organization, staffed and run by area residents dedicated to saving land. We work with landowners, donors, our local government, and with partner organizations who share a stake in what we do. It takes a lot of creative problem-solving, and a heaping dose of community fun to get the job done.

Summit Land Conservancy works in the heart of the Wasatch: the high ground of long snows, sage-brush meadows, dark pine forests, and clear, cold creeks. People have been stewards of this land for thousands of years. We approach our work from a place of honor for those who came before us and reverence for these rocks and rivers, eagles and chickadees, elk and trout. Grounded here in the headwaters of the Provo, Weber and Bear Rivers, we serve our communities today and for generations to come.
